Turntables and Soul …

This week our middle son, Josh, made his first big independent purchase from money he has saved from allowance and working – a turntable and his first couple vinyl albums.   And we got to rediscover cool album cover art.  Love that kid!

And I got to rediscover a local treasure for great music – Birdland Music in Kempsville.  Haven’t been in there in many years and they were awesome!   So glad that Bryce recommended we check it out.   So while Josh browsed the vinyl for his first two picks – Kansas and Billy Joel – I found some great new music.

And I loved that the staff seemed to have hand picked everything and were quick to recommend music – just like our favorite independent bookstores.  Definitely a great example of why we need to support our local small businesses!   And they swap out all their vinyl every week so I know Josh will be back often.  (They even threw in a free 45 for him and got a customer for life!)

LOVE discovering new music!  One of the CDs I picked up was Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings – a terrific funk/soul band that’s a throwback to the 60s.  Check this out!

Love this line from Retreat!  …

‘stand back boy because you can’t fix crazy!’

Good advice to remember.  Who has time for crazy, right?  Too busy enjoying all of our new music … happy listening and happy weekend …
